Modern South African sjambok, 4.5 ft. This genuine police item is made of finely molded plastic (seems to be polyethylene, although often stated as PVC). It's used mainly for riot control and as a self defense weapon. Some so-called "vigilantes" abuse the sjambok for self-justice. The sjambok is no toy, but really dangerous - for others as well as for an unexperienced user. The sjambok was no standard equipment (like a baton etc.) but only used for fighting riots.
