| In southern Germany, these whips are used for traditional whipcracking during the carnival season (Fastnacht, seven weeks before easter).
The thong consists of a twisted, tapered hemp rope with a leather keeper to hold the cracker.
The handle is strong rawhide, hard as plastic, simply wrapped around in wet condition and then shrunk in place.
At the butt end, the handle is decorated with a leather cord. (02/13/2006) |
